Go local!
We are so blessed to live in an area where we have an abundance of local produce available to us. It feels good to know where your food comes from - it makes the experience of eating it so much more enjoyable. That feeling is multiplied x1,000 when you grow the food yourself. Unfortunately, we don't have a cherry tree in our yard (man, I sure wish we did!). However, there are some really good Washington cherries for sale this time of year.
On our way home from an out of town baseball tournament, we stopped at a popular fruit stand in Thorp, WA. It was tough to limit ourselves, as everything looked incredibly tasty, but we finally chose a few things to indulge in over this week. Cherries, corn on the cob, and peaches. Oh so good....
Currently, my favorite way to enjoy cherries (or peaches for that matter) is to mix them with plain yogurt and raw almonds. The tartness of the yogurt combines with the sweetness of the cherries and, my friends, you've got yourselves a super delicious, healthy snack.
